Bursting Balloons

A few weeks ago I wrote about my husband’s high speed photography project for his engineering class and shared some water drop photos that came from it.  Well, he and his group have continued working on the project, and here are some of the photos that they captured while popping water balloons.

While I think that all the stages of the bursting balloon are interesting, my favorite pictures were those captured towards the end of the “burst,” when all the water is drawn down by gravity and it all starts sloshing about.

Below you can see a fairly complete sequence of a bursting balloon at different points of the process.  Click on the thumbnails for larger views.
