Intimate details

During a walk, it is the small details that arrest my attention. In them I sense whispers of a love that sustains, of a benevolent power so great that it encompasses and gives worth to the tiny. In the intimate details of thistle down and a small vine stretching up a post, I remember–sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously–the One who is acquainted not just with the birds of the air, but also with the flowers of the field; the One whose familiarity with me extends to the smallest follicle of hair. I am comforted in the knowledge of being known–and in being known, loved.
